Crib and extra bed policies
Valet parking is free at the hotel, though we were a little unnerved at the lack of a ticket for our car. Wi-Fi is available for a fee, though it's technically free in the restaurant. In any case, we had trouble keeping a connection from time to time. A small boutique sells a limited selection of tourist goodies.

For those who need an early morning pick-me-up – perhaps after a late night dance party in downtown Cabo – a coffee shop opens at the break of dawn to accommodate guests. The included American Breakfast was very good, service was fast. The location of the dining area was nicely appointed with open air and comfortable seating. In the evening the area had live music and the roof canopy was pulled back to expose the moon and stars, with firepits lit for a warm inviting ambiance. SUR Beach House is located directly on Medano Beach, with beautiful views of the rock towers surrounding the Cabo Arch.

The star here is the hotel's trendy restaurant and bar, though, which serve excellent foodie plates and hand-crafted cocktails. For a hotel that's a bit quieter and has more authentic Mexican charm, check out The Bungalows Hotel, which is slightly cheaper, but lacks the destination dining. While rooms aren't uniformly awesome here, the features are actually quite great, especially for a mid-range hotel right in the thick of Cabo San Lucas' party scene. SUR Beach House is a five-minute walk from the hotel or a two-minute shuttle ride in one of the hotel’s golf carts. SUP Water Sport Activities is located adjacent to the private beach area where guests can use stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and glass-bottomed boats. The upscale restaurant is bedecked in chic blues and whites with rustic plank floors, and open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

It's worth noting that rooms closest to the hotel's lobby on the ground floor do pick up significant restaurant noise until late. The 81-room Bahia Hotel isn't directly on the beach, but it's just a block away and makes a fine three-pearl pick near all of Cabo San Lucas' party hotspots. Although some rooms are a bit dated, many have a sharp look, with plenty of extra seating and modern amenities. Unfortunately there are fees for spotty Wi-Fi and restaurant noise can be an issue in some rooms. There's a nice coffee shop on-site, and the pool and hot tub stay bumping throughout the day.

If you don’t feel like walking, we have golf-cart shuttles to get you to the beach — or home — even quicker. While the hotel isn’t right on the beach, guests are always welcome at the SUR Beach House, an open-air terrace overlooking Playa El Medano. Take the 2-minute shuttle, or a casual 5-minute stroll, from the main resort area to grab a wooden lounge chair with an ocean view. Those looking for water activities can go to SUP Water Sport Activities, where kayaks, paddleboards, and boats are available for use.
More modern rooms feature faux-concrete floors, stone built-ins, and brown velvet banquette seating. The white, brown, and blue color palettes keep things bright, and all rooms are spacious. There's even island kitchenette seating in some rooms, though the lack of kitchenette features beyond microwaves and minibars in those rooms feels like a missed opportunity. Other rooms have full kitchens, like the Two Bedroom Suite that we visited.
The airport is outside of San Jose, a 40-minute drive from the hotel. The hotel's restaurant -- Bar Esquina -- is a major highlight. Decor is modern and the distinct spaces include a sharp bar, an open kitchen, and a spacious outdoor terrace. Live music accompanies the meals in the evenings, and there's an impressive cocktail menu. Food draws on international inspirations, with foodie-worthy pizzas and curries on the menu during our visit. There's also a coffee shop that opens early and serves great baked goods and excellent espresso and drip coffees.
